Campus Partners Board of Trustees Seeks Student and Neighborhood Representatives

April 20, 2000

The Board of Trustees of Campus Partners hopes this spring to fill two vacancies on its board with a graduate student or a graduate-professional student from The Ohio State University and with a permanent resident of the University District.

Ohio State established Campus Partners in 1995 as a non-profit community redevelopment corporation to improve the neighborhoods around the university’s Columbus campus. The 14-member Campus Partners board is the policy-making and oversight authority for the redevelopment corporation.

Selection of student member

The Campus Partners board includes two students. One student position is reserved for a graduate or graduate-professional student; the other position is reserved for an undergraduate. The term of Ronald B. Meyers, the current graduate and professional student member of the Campus Partners board, will end June 30. The new graduate and graduate-professional student representative will serve a term from July 1, 2000, to June 30, 2002. Jessica Weeks is the current undergraduate student on the board. Her term is from July 1, 1999, to June 30, 2001.

Any graduate student or graduate-professional student in good academic standing may apply for the seat on the Campus Partners board. Application forms must be submitted to the Campus Partners office, 1824 N. High St., by Monday, May 8, at 5 p.m.

The application forms may be picked at the Council of Graduate Students, 208 Ohio Union; Inter-Professional Council, 306 Ohio Union; Undergraduate Student Government, 201 Ohio Union; Office of Student Activities, 218 Ohio Union; Ethnic Student Services, 345 Ohio Union; Student Gender and Sexuality Services, 464 Ohio Union; Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services, 104 E. 15th Ave.; Frank Hale Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave.; Office of Student Affairs, Suite 115, 33 W. 15th Ave.; and Campus Partners, 1824 N. High St.

A selection committee will review the applications and will recommend at least two students for consideration by the Campus Partners board. The selection committee will give preference to applicants who have lived on- or off-campus in the University District for at least one year and who plan to continue to live in the University District during the term of service on the board.

The selection committee will be composed of one representative each from the Council of Graduate Students, Inter-Professional Council and Undergraduate Student Government; the chair of the Campus Partners Student Advisory Board; the two students currently serving on the Campus Partners board; and one other Campus Partners board member. The outgoing student board member, Ronald Meyers, will chair the committee.

Selection of neighborhood member

The Campus Partners board includes two positions for residents of the University District. Don Pearson and Sharon Austin were appointed to the board in 1995 to fill these seats. Pearson has moved out the University District and resigned from the board. Austin continues to serve.

Campus Partners has sent applications for the vacant seat for a neighborhood resident to a number of civic associations and agencies in the University District. Applications also may be obtained at the Campus Partners office. Applications must be submitted to the Campus Partners office, 1824 N. High St., by Friday, May 12, at 5 p.m.

Applicants must live in the University District. As defined by Columbus City Code, the University District is bounded by Fifth Avenue on the south, Glen Echo Ravine (just north of Arcadia Avenue) on the north, the Conrail railroad tracks on the east and the Olentangy River on the west. Currently enrolled Ohio State students are not eligible to apply because there is a separate selection process for student representation.
