The Druker Company
Developer

The Druker Company, Ltd., a Boston-based real estate and development company, is a specialist in large-scale urban mixed-use development. The Company, founded in 1901, is known for its expertise in creating architecturally significant buildings which integrate diverse uses. The Company develops, acquires, owns and manages urban office, retail, market and affordable residential, entertainment, parking and hotel properties; the majority of the Company's holdings are mixed-use.

Having created and continuing to own and manage buildings containing all of the components that will comprise University Gateway Center, the Company's experience is uniquely suited to the University Gateway development.

In addition, the strong design focus that the Company brings to its development efforts is of equal importance in a high visibility location such as the proposed University Gateway Center site. The Company's president, Ronald M. Druker, served for nearly a decade as a faculty member at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and the Company's buildings have won multiple local, national and international design awards.

The Druker Company is known as a leader in urban revitalization efforts in the neighborhoods in which its developments are located. Rather than seeking sites only in established areas, the Company has used its developments as catalysts for neighborhood improvement. For example, the Company's residential/office/retail The Heritage on The Garden (designed by Elkus/Manfredi's Howard Elkus), which won the prestigious international Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence, restored the elegance of a once-proud, but decayed block opposite Boston's renowned Public Garden; its retail/office Newton Place complex in Newton, MA restored a run-down neighborhood center into a clean, safe gateway of business and community activity; and its retail/food court/office/theater The Corner complex (an historic rehabilitation development) helped revive Boston's important Downtown Crossing district.

The Druker Company also has a wide range of experience with public-private partnerships, having developed a number of buildings in cooperation with local municipalities and others partially supported by public funding. In all of its endeavors, the Company works extensively with community groups and leaders. Recently, the Company won a competition to develop a 400,000 square foot mixed-use complex on city-owned land in Boston's vibrant, emerging South End, which will include a new arts complex featuring two performing arts theaters, as well as residences, restaurants, retail stores, offices and a parking garage.

From a design perspective, The Druker Company develops buildings which are the most visible, strategically located, architecturally significant buildings in their neighborhoods, serving as gateways to these communities. Programmatically, the Company's buildings contain uses and occupancies which act as anchors for their respective neighborhoods.
