University Way

The entertainment heart of University Gateway is the open pedestrian walkway and gathering spot called University Way. On the axis of 10th Avenue, it stretches from High Street to the new parking structure and dance club within, east of Pearl Street. It is lined with small ethnic restaurants, funky music and second floor bars and billiards. Here, the architecture, the signage and the lighting can break away from the traditional rhythms of High Street and can become fanciful, exuberant, and fully energized.

On the north side of University Way, food vendors are enclosed in a glass shed with glazed overhead doors which can be opened in the good weather to allow seating and activity to spill into the pedestrian way. Exuberant, three dimensional graphics are icons for the vendors, drawing people into the space, advertising the street, stopping people and pulling them in. This is an animated, vital entertainment zone.
