Design
Mission
For this development team, the mission statement for design was clear
from the start: to restore and create a vital streetscape that sets a
standard stretching north and south along High Street; to establish an
identifiable gateway to The University District that is also the front
door to The University; and to make "a place", a symbolic heart that provides
a variety of public spaces forming a seam between The University and the
neighborhood. This design proposal focuses on creating walkable streets,
reinforcing the historic street pattern and architectural scale of the
district and recreating the diversity of authentic urban fabric.
