The City of Columbus has been a critically important and very supportive partner with the neighborhoods of the University District and with The Ohio State University in a number of initiatives to improve the quality of life in these neighborhoods. The Mayor's Office and City Council have championed city investments in the public infrastructure needed to construct South Campus Gateway, construction of the Moody-Hall Neighborhood Policing Center, replacement of the street lighting system in the student neighborhood, acquisition and redevelopment of the old Columbus Coated Fabrics industrial site, alley lighting and resurfacing, infrastructure improvements along High Street, and much more. City staff members, particularly in the departments of Public Safety, Development and Public Service, have worked closely with neighborhood stakeholders to significantly improve the delivery of municipal services to these older, densely populated neighborhoods of the University District. The partnership continues through the work of the University District Public Service Commiittee and the University Area Safety Committee.
