Highlights.

 

  • Outreach Scholarship Conference.š If you plan to attend this conference but have not made hotel reservations for Saturday night, please visit www.visitpennstate.org/hotels.php. The Penn Stater conference center is booked for Saturday night, but has rooms available Sunday and Monday.

  • Port Clinton Performing Arts Festival – 2004 Excellence in Engagement Grant Supports Inaugural Festival.š Ohio State actors, dancers, musicians, and other artists will take their show on the road to Port Clinton for a new Performing Arts Festival. The three day "sampler" will showcase the performing and visual arts in various venues.š Thanks to the efforts of the OSU Department of Theatre, Ottawa County OSU Extension, and Port Clinton business leaders, the festival has been developed to boost off-season tourism in the Lake Erie town and capitalize on the region's affinity for Ohio State. Organizers say their long term-goal is to expand to a full two weeks of activities by 2006 and become self-sufficient by 2007.   • Share with the University Outreach and Engagement Office Your Recent Achievements. This is a time of year in which many units hear about funding for new outreach and engagement initiatives and/or make plans to implement new programs this fall.š Please make sure and record those efforts in the Outreach and Engagement database at http://www.osu.edu/outreachprojects/index.php or send the information to our office at outreach@osu.edu and we will enter for you.š This database is regularly accessed by individuals across the university and in the community to learn more about Ohio State’s partnerships with the community.

  • Fellows Program Available for those Doing Outreach Work – Become a Great Lakes Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (GLCASH) Fellows and expand your evaluation skills.  This program invites people involved in developing or implementing agricultural and/or rural safety and health education and/or programs to apply and become a Fellow.  Fellows will be expected to participate in a 20-month web-based education program on evaluating programs for impact and will be supported by a mentor, other Fellows and up to $500 to evaluate an existing safety and/or health program in their community.  To learn more about the program, and to apply, visit http://glcfellows.osu.edu/šš This program is being conducted in partnership with University Outreach and OSU CARES/OSU Extension.   • Imagining America Conference - Making Knowledge: Democracy, Cultural Partnerships, and the University.š This conference showcases new research produced through cultural partnerships. Grant Opportunities.

**The Institute of Education Sciences invites applications for funding to support pre-doctoral interdisciplinary research training in the education sciences. Grants are available for the development of innovative interdisciplinary training programs for doctoral students interested in conducting applied education research.š Application deadline:š Optional letters of intent are due September 17, 2004; applications are due Nov. 18, 2004. **Research on Gender in Science and Engineering Program. This program seeks to broaden the participation of girls and women in all fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education by supporting research, dissemination, and extension services in education. The categories of proposers identified in the Grant Proposal Guide are eligible to submit proposals. Application deadline:š For research projects, required preliminary proposals are due October 18, 2004, and full proposals are due February 1, 2005. See solicitation for other deadlines. **Digital Divide Grants.š Due to growing technology gaps between the rich and the poor, minorities and majority communities, the EDS Foundation will fund programs that provide access such as provision of computers and internet connections to community access centers, educational software and other programs, training programs targeted to teachers, counselors, program administrators and staff on how to maximize the use of technology, and evaluation.š Each program would have to define its objectives and demonstrate how it measures success.š Application deadline:š Continuous.š For further information, visit:š http://www.eds.com/foundation
