Preparation and adoption of the

“University Neighborhoods Revitalization Plan: Concept Document”

When Campus Partners was created in January 1995, The Ohio State University and the City of Columbus charged the new non-profit organization with developing a comprehensive revitalization plan for the urban neighborhoods around the university’s campus.  Campus Partners subsequently brought together a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, led by EDAW, a planning and urban design firm based in San Francisco, to prepare the plan.  Throughout 1995, Campus Partners and the consultants worked with numerous community stakeholders and neighborhood task forces and held dozens of public meetings to forge a vision for these neighborhoods and to develop a community-based plan.

Campus Partners published “University Neighborhoods Revitalization Plan: Concept Document” in July 1996 after careful review by the University Area Commission, University Community Business Association, the Columbus Historic Resources Commission and the Columbus Development Commission.

The Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University in May 1997 adopted a resolution accepting the plan “as generally reflecting the set of guiding principles for the revitalization strategies and programs for the improvement of the neighborhoods around the university.”  Columbus City Council in June 1997 approved an ordinance adopting the plan “as a guide for public and private improvements in the University District.”

In late 1996 and early 1997, Campus Partners consulted widely with stakeholders to develop a series of priority implementation measures based on the recommendations in the revitalization plan.  Click here to view progress on these priority implementation measures.
