Lave

Lave is a fresh handmade natural bath product store. Each product in the Lave line is handmade or hand blended and hand poured or hand molded.  Some products use a basic blend of fresh ingredients for their simplistic beauty, while other products use a more complex blend of fresh ingredients that yield the unique Lave product line.  The colorful storefront plus the alluring aromas wafting through the door, begin the Lave experience before the customer steps foot in the store.  The unique method of product display sets Lave apart from its competition and allows the customer to feel how the products are “made to order.”  Lave creates this hands-on shopping experience by displaying large slabs of soap, cutting individual sizes, and wrapping in front of the customer.  The exciting atmosphere and tempting aromas of Lave will attract people of all ages. Lave is devoted to providing fun and healthy bath products, so fill up your tub and jump into the fun.

The 921-square-foot store will be located in Building C on High Street just south of the intersection with East 11th Avenue.  Lave is being developed by Lisa Karst, a Columbus entrepreneur.

The word “lave” is a verb which means “to wash or to bathe.”  The word is pronounced as one syllable with a hard “a” as in “ape.”  The “e” is silent.

Eddie George’s Grille 27

The exciting new Eddie George’s Grille 27 is coming to Columbus this fall.  This new kind of sports-theme restaurant will put a whole new “spin” on the sports-restaurant experience, in other words…this ain’t your daddy’s sports bar!

This new project is being brought to Columbus by experienced hospitality executives who originally partnered with Eddie George on the highly successful Eddie George Sports Grille in downtown Nashville.  That restaurant opened in 2000 and is still providing a quality guest experience today.

Industry veterans Howard Shiller and Bob McCarthy, both formerly of the Walt Disney Co. in Orlando, Fla., along with Bob Burness are creating an all-new concept in Columbus that will be representative of Eddie George’s pride and commitment to Columbus and The Ohio State University.  This project, like Eddie, will be a stylish and classy restaurant that will provide a quality food, beverage and entertainment experience for all members of the community and especially for those who love The Ohio State University and Eddie George.

The restaurant will occupy 6,347 square feet on the southeast corner of High Street and Chittenden Avenue.  The restaurant, which is being designed by a famed Columbus architectural firm, will be stylish and sleek with modern décor that will represent the new millennium, but also classic enough to reflect the timelessness of the great campus of Ohio State and its alumnus.

The state-of-the-art audio/visual presentation of high-definition televisions and sound will be provided by Island Systems & Design.  This company provides audio/visual presentations for some of the country’s finest casinos, as well as ESPN Zones, Fox Sports Grilles, Darden Restaurants, and many others. With an over $250,000 investment in audio/visual equipment, the presentation will be spectacular!

“Our goal is to create a restaurant that provides the highest quality, casual-dining guest experience possible not only in Columbus, but in the nation,” explained Bob McCarthy.  “In order to do this, we sought the services of the best in their fields to assist us in delivering a restaurant that people will enjoy for years to come.  As my Disney experience showed and as Walt Disney once said, ‘Ultimately, quality wins out!’”

The menu will provide a broad range of offerings that will not only make the sports-bar fan happy, but also the most experienced casual-dining critic in any group:

  • Mouth-watering appetizers such as crab cakes, mini-reubens, crispy tuna rolls with ponzu, sesame chicken satays, bacon-wrapped shrimp with avocado and chili essence, as well as the ever-present chicken wings and over-the-top nachos.
  • Entrees which provide everything from the famous EDDIE’S 27oz. STEAK, angus burgers, lemon-garlic chicken, savory BBQ ribs, pecan-encrusted pork chops, ahi tuna, baked rigatoni with meatballs, wild mushroom and wide noodle past with sun-dried tomatoes and a parmesan broth, macaroni and cheese entrée, etc.
  • Tremendous salads and sandwiches from fresh Asian chicken salad, fried chicken salad, apple and bleu cheese salad, a fried-cheddar and meatloaf hoagie, hot shrimp BLT, smoked gouda, turkey and pancetta club on ciabatta bread.
  • Desserts will include hot deep-dish apple pie, skillet peach cobbler, triple-stack chocolate layer cake, a banana-split martini for two, etc.
  • The bar area will include 27 different martinis, 27 different beers, 27 different vodkas, scotches, etc.

Columbus is one of the places that Eddie George will always call “home.”  Being a Buckeye is a title Eddie wears with great humility and pride.  “We are humbled by this opportunity to deliver a restaurant along with Eddie that will make him as proud as he currently is of the phrase ‘graduate of The Ohio State University!’” said Bob McCarthy.  “This is our mission and, like Eddie always has, we will work harder than anyone else and never compromise to ensure this success!”

Pesto Creative Italian Bistro

The Pesto concept is a new entrant into the fast-growing, quick-casual restaurant industry.  Pesto will launch its flagship location at the new South Campus Gateway project in Columbus, Ohio, and will pursue an aggressive expansion plan through national franchising and company-owned stores.  Integrating form, function and flavor, Pesto will offer an energetic and interactive atmosphere.  Customers can create their own fresh, made-to-order pasta, pizza, salad and gelato masterpieces at affordable prices!

Pesto Creative Italian Bistro will be located in 2,236 square feet of space at the south end of Building B on East 11th Avenue just off of High Street.

Pesto Creative Italian Bistro was developed by Lee Shadle, a 22-year-old college student.  Lee will graduate in June 2005 from The Ohio State University Fisher School of Business with a B.S. degree in marketing.  After dreaming up the concept in a marketing class during his junior year, Lee decided to pursue the idea and write a business plan.  Soon after its completion, he entered the concept into the annual Fisher Business Plan Competition, sponsored by Deloitte and Touche.  Although he did not walk away as the winner of the competition, he did walk away victorious, with a handful of family and friends who said, “Pursue it and we will invest.”

“Pasta to me is synonymous with family,” Lee explains.  “Family comes first.  I wanted to create something that my whole family could be a part of.  I want to be able to give people the most bang for their buck.  My dream is to not only provide great Italian food, at an affordable price, in a unique environment, but also to provide a business opportunity that, whether it be a family or an OSU student, anyone can buy into.”

Lee may have lost the competition, but he persevered with endless hours devoted to building the Pesto concept, while carrying a full college load and working as a resident manager at Taylor Tower on campus.  With the help of Campus Partners and several helpful Columbus natives, as well as using his parent’s home as collateral to secure a SBA loan, Lee will make Pesto a reality this fall at South Campus Gateway.

Potbelly Sandwich Works

A unique sandwich joint, Potbelly Sandwich Works has been serving up crispy hot sandwiches, hand dipped shakes and live local music at a reasonable price since 1977.   The rapidly expanding Potbelly has extended the cult-like status of its first store to 70 restaurants throughout the Chicago, Washington, D.C., Ann Arbor, Mi., Madison, Wis., Detroit, Milwaukee, Annapolis, Md., Minneapolis, and Dallas metro areas.

At South Campus Gateway, Potbelly will be housed in 2,352 square feet at the south end of Building B at the corner of High Street and East 11th Avenue.

Potbelly began in 1977 in Chicago as a small antique store run by a nice young couple.  Despite the fast-paced, never-a-dull-moment world of antique dealing, the couple decided to bolster their business by making sandwiches for their customers.  What began as a lark, turned out to be stroke of genius.  Soon, people who could care less about vintage glass doorknobs were stopping by to enjoy special sandwiches and homemade desserts in this unusual atmosphere.

As the years passed, the lines grew.  Booths were added, along with ovens for toasting sandwiches to perfection.  Customers then choose from a variety of fresh ingredients to create their ideal sandwich.  Our goal is to keep things simple.  As our CEO Bryant Keil says, “We don’t have 500 gourmet sandwiches on our menu.  We try to do a few things and do them really, really well.”  Make sure you save room for our hand-dipped shakes, smoothies, irresistible oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and other treats.  You don’t want to pass those up!  We even provide live entertainment.  We love music and often feature local musicians performing live in our stores.

As you can see, what began as a little antique shop has turned into the full-fledged, totally unique sandwich joint that you enjoy today.  Come give us a try!

Long’s Bookstore…The tradition continues

Long’s Bookstore, a campus and community landmark at East 15th Avenue and High Street, is moving down the street to its original location, the corner of 11th Avenue and High Street.

In 1902, Frank C. Long opened Long’s Bookstore at 11th Avenue and High Street.  In 1909, the bookstore was relocated to the historical main entrance to campus, the corner of 15th Avenue and High Street, where it has been an integral part of the Ohio State tradition.  Frank C. Long, Jr., was born in an apartment above the bookstore in 1909 and went on to become a physician.  Following his father’s death in 1956, Dr. Long gave up his medical practice and assumed management of the bookstore.  Dr. Long passed away in 1998, and the Long family and the corporation’s board sold the bookstore operation to Campus Partners in 2000.  Since 2000, Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, Inc., has operated Long’s Bookstore under a lease and licensing agreement with Campus Partners and The Ohio State University Bookstore under a lease and licensing agreement with Ohio State.
