South Campus Gateway

Terry Foegler, president of Campus Partners, will give an update on the construction of South Campus Gateway to the University Area Commission at its meeting on April 20.  Meanwhile, Campus Partners has begun marketing the 184 apartments being built in Gateway to graduate and graduate-professional students and university faculty and staff.  The apartments are not being marketed to undergraduate students who already have many housing options on and off campus.  For information on the Gateway housing, go to the following web site: www.towneprop.com/southcampus.

Street sweeping returns

The City of Columbus will resume monthly street sweeping in the University District in April.  Please note that the regularly scheduled sweeping is on the second Thursday and second Friday of the month.  In April, the second Friday is April 8 and the second Thursday is April 14.  (Neil Avenue south of the university is swept on the Victorian Village schedule.)

Refuse collection and recycling

Neighbors continue to monitor the weekly pick-up of refuse collection in the University District.  The next meeting of the Campus Partners Public Service Committee on refuse collection and recycling will be Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m. in the Northwood-High Building, 2231 N. High St.

Safety committee to celebrate 10th anniversary

The first meeting of the Campus Partners Safety Coordinating Committee was convened on April 26, 1995.  Now known as the University Area Safety Committee, this collaboration of law enforcement agencies, university and city offices, neighborhood civic leaders and other stakeholders has worked to improve public safety in the University District for a full decade.  To mark this occasion, we will have an informal celebration of our work at the next meeting of the committee on Wednesday, April 13, in the conference room of 33 W. 11th Ave.  Our committee will conduct its normal business (including an update on the African American Heritage Festival) beginning at 3:30 p.m.  At 4 p.m., we will have refreshments and an opportunity to reflect on the committee’s accomplishments and to greet current and former colleagues.  Members of the University Area Commission are invited to attend.

Weinland Park planning

The Working Committee for the Weinland Park planning process will meet on Monday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Godman Guild, 303 E. Sixth Ave.  The consultants will present preliminary findings and a series of issues and recommendations for the committee’s review.  Summaries of the consultants’ work have been posted on the Columbus Planning Division’s web site.  To review the summaries, go to www.columbusinfobase.org, select "Weinland Park Neighborhood Plan: Planning Process Underway" on the home page, and then review the materials under the heading “New: Updated Materials from the Consultant Team.”

Columbus Coated Fabrics site

Steve Sterrett of Campus Partners is working with Steve Soble, neighborhood liaison with the Columbus Development Department, to set up a meeting with Weinland Park neighborhood civic leaders to discuss what is known about maintenance and public safety involving the Columbus Coated Fabrics site.  So far, Campus Partners has not reached a new agreement with the bankruptcy court on a two-year option to acquire the site.
