Students

One of the driving forces behind Ohio State's and Campus Partners' involvement in the revitalization of the University District is concern for the safety and quality of life experienced by students who live on the Columbus campus and in the neighborhoods around the university. Student participation has come through Campus Partners' periodic forums specifically for students, internships and work-study opportunities, presentations to student organizations, collaboration with Undergraduate Student Government, surveys of undergraduate and graduate students and participation on key community committees.

Internships/Work Study/Volunteer

Ohio State students work in the Campus Partners office and serve on a variety of Campus Partners and community committees, offering valuable advice and insight into the planning and implementation of neighborhood improvements. The students also gain valuable leadership and organizing experience, as well as expanding their knowledge of civic life, urban planning, public policy, municipal services, retail and housing markets, and much more.

If you are a student, you may choose from three types of involvement:

  • Academic internship. You arrange with your department at Ohio State to enroll in an independent study for academic credit. Each department may have different requirements for such an internship. Be sure to talk with the Campus Partners staff in advance of registering for an internship.
  • Federal Work-Study employment. As part of their university financial aid packages, many Ohio State students are awarded an allocation of funds through Federal Work-Study employment. Students may choose to earn their money through employment in Ohio State offices on campus or in selected non-profit agencies in the neighborhoods. One of those agencies is Campus Partners. If you do receive a Work-Study allocation, talk with Campus Partners about opportunities to work part-time.
  • Committee membership. Much of the work of Campus Partners is conducted through a series of community committees which include students, neighborhood residents, city staff members, business and property owners, and university faculty and staff. These committees deal with such issues as public safety, refuse collection, code enforcement, and area schools.

For more information on these opportunities, contact Erin Prosser, Director of Community Relations, at (614) 247-5958 or by e-mail at prosser.20@osu.edu.
